Over 3,000 Sydney Tamils came together to observe Remembrance Day events on November 27th at the Newington Reserve, Silverwater.
The event commenced the lighting of the lamp by Mr Jessy, brother of two heroes - Iniyavan (Rames) and Ashokan (Vennilavan).
The Australian and Tamil Eelam National flags were hoisted by the coordinator of the Tamil Coordinating Committee and a member from Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO-Australia).
Following a moment of silence in memory of the nation's heroes, the flame of sacrifice was lit by Mr N Sivananthan, brother of the hero, Thamilmaran.
Young Australian Tamils performed a number of dances and acts using a fusion of martial arts, traditional Bharatha Natyam and modern technology, to depict the lives of four of the nation's heroes.
Mr K Ayyanathan, a journalist and political analyst from Tamil Nadu addressed the crowds. He reiterated the need to bring war criminals to justice and asserted that the Tamil nation's struggle was for freedom. "Freedom of the people cannot and should not be denied", he added.
