Tamils in Norway held a commemoration for Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day on 18 May 2025, honouring the tens of thousands of Tamil civilians massacred by the Sri Lankan military in Mullivaikkal in 2009.

In Oslo, commemorations began at 3 p.m. near Oslo Central Station and artistic performances and a series of memorial services led by community and political organisations.

The Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), Tamil Women’s Organisation, and International Youth Organisation each delivered their own memorial tributes, highlighting the enduring impact of the genocide on Tamil youth, women, and the global diaspora.

In a significant show of solidarity, the Norwegian Workers' Party and the Norwegian Socialist Left Party also participated in the event, underscoring growing political recognition of Tamil suffering in Sri Lanka.
Organisers noted a marked increase in participation from non-Tamil attendees, with people from other ethnic backgrounds joining the vigil and expressing interest in learning about the injustices faced by the Tamil people.

Meanwhile, in the city of Stavanger, the Tamil Coordination Committee held a separate commemoration. There too, members of other communities came forward to take part and understand the Tamil people’s continued struggle for justice and recognition.
