Mullivaikaal tourism an insult to Tamil sentiments – Karunanidhi

DMK leader M Karunanidhi has criticised the building of victory memorials in the North, accusing the Sri Lankan goverment of undertaking such projects purely to offend the sentiments of Tamils.

In a statement about the victory memorial and war museum being erected at the site of the final phase of the war in 2009, Karunanidhi said:

"The memorial and war museum are an uncivilised act of the Sri Lankan Government. These are not helpful to the peace efforts said to have been undertaken by the island government.”

"The government has erected the memorial at the place, where LTTE fought for 30 years and where innocent Tamils were killed.”

Karunanidhi further said that it was painful to know that hundreds of Sri Lankan tourists flocked to the sites which had been "erected by the Rajapaksa Government with the deliberate intent to suppress Tamils."
