The demonstration coincides with the scheduled visit of the Minister of Fisheries to Mullaitivu tomorrow, with protesters urging the imposition of strict measures against unlawful fishing methods.

Vanni District Member of Parliament Thurairaja Ravikaran also joined the protest, stating he was standing in support of the community’s demands.

An organiser from the ruling National People’s Power party visited the protest site and told the demonstrators that their concerns would be conveyed to the minister and that efforts would be made to secure appropriate solutions through official channels.
