Sri Lankan government minister Mervyn Silva and his police entourage are accused of disrespecting the traditions of a Tamil Hindu temple in Jaffna, after they parked their vehicles inside the temple premises and proceeded to enter the temple without removing their footwear.

The minister visited the Nalloor Kanthan temple in Jaffna, with Silva and his police escorts parking their 4x4 vehicles inside the temple premises, against the rules of the temple.

Silva and the policemen then proceeded to step inside without removing his footwear.

The Jaffna daily Uthayan commented that “this shows that different rules apply to people, and army, police or anyone from south.”
