Militarised ‘community projects’ carried out across Mullaitivu

Sri Lankan security force troops carried out ‘community projects’ in schools and hospitals in Mullaitivu over the past few weeks.

The troops took part in disinfection and sterilisation procedures at the Mathusha pre-school in Theravil and performed a “Sharmadana” campaign – a welfare project based on Buddhist principles – around the Oddusuddan Hospital Premises.

They sterilised and disinfected the premises and made a few repairs in the building and were seen to be in intimate contact with the parents and teacher of the pre-school.

Despite the threat of COVID-19, the Sri Lankan military continues to be on the frontline of public sector activities by overseeing policy, intruding public spaces and managing community projects.
