Sri Lanka's "joint opposition" staged a huge rally in Colombo today. The rally was attended by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was cheered by the thousands of people in the crowds.

Although the SLFP earlier this week said that action would be taken against those who attended the rally, 46 MPs participated in the event, including from other parties.
Mr Rajapaksa addressed the crowds and said the allegations raised against him by the government were false.
“Even if my family is arrested or I am arrested I will remain in politics,” he said.
Parliamentarians who attended include Kumara Welgama, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Basil Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawanse, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, T.B Rathnayaka, G.L.Peiris, Bandula Gunawardena, Dullas Alahapperuma, Gaminia Lokuge, Rohitha Abegunawardena, Chamal Rajapaksa.
