
Commemorative events were held in California and North Carolina in the USA last week to mark Maaveerar Naal.
Maaveerar Naal - or Great Heroes' Day - is observed on November 27 annually by the Tamil nation to remember the sacrifices of the Tamils who laid down their lives int he armed struggle.
North Carolina
Maaveerar Naal was observed by Tamils in North Carolina. Attendees lit lamps to remember fallen LTTE cadres.

The event also featured a range of talks discussing the history of the Tamil liberation struggle, ranging from the historical injustice faced by Tamils, the Vaddukoddai Resolution and the de facto state of Tamil Eelam. The speakers spoke about Tamils' inalienable right to self-determination and the responsibility of Tamil Americans in carrying the liberation struggle forward.




California
In California, Tamils paid tribute to fallen cadres by lighting a lamp and laying flowers besides the portraits of fallen cadres. Tamil children also performed dances to honour Tamil fighters.
