La Courneuve embraces colours of Tamil culture in inaugural Thai Pongal celebration

In a momentous occasion for the city of La Courneuve, the vibrant Tamil community gathered for the very first time to celebrate Thai Pongal, marking a milestone in Tamil cultural festivities in the region.

This event was a collaborative effort organized by the Em Inam team and Franco-Tamoul La Courneuve, which was established in 2001. Though Thai Pongal events took place across the country, the inaugural event at La Courneuve drew significant local interest.

La Courneuve, renowned as a hub for Tamils in France, witnessed the inaugural celebration, showcasing the dedication of the Em Inam team in promoting Tamil culture and history among French-Tamils and the broader society. The collaboration with Franco-Tamoul La Courneuve, one of the oldest Tamil organizations in France, added a historical touch to the festivities.

The event provided a unique opportunity for residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Tamil community. Distinguished figures graced the event, emphasizing its significance. MP Soumya Bourouaha, Stéphane Troussel, President of the Seine-Saint Denis district, Mayor Gilles Poux, and the municipal team, including French-Tamil city councillor Suharna Srikanesh, were among those present.

The enthusiasm and support for Tamil culture were palpable, reflecting the city's openness to embracing and celebrating diverse traditions. The Thai Pongal celebration in La Courneuve not only added a colourful chapter to the city's cultural narrative but also served as a symbol of unity and inclusivity.
