Jihadi ideology' threat to India says HC to Sri Lanka

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka today warned that "Jihadi ideology" was a threat to both countries.

Describing India as "first responder to Sri Lanka's needs and priorities", Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the Indian premier Narendra Modi had offered all possible assistance to combat this threat to regional security and global peace.

Singh's comments came just before Modi's visit to Sri Lanka - the first visit by a foreign leader since the Easter Sunday bombings by Islamist extremists.

“India has always been a First Responder to Sri Lanka’s needs and priorities. Whether it be the flood or drought, India has been the first to respond with men and material. India has also completed several people-oriented development projects all across the island, as pure gifts from people of India,” he told those gathered at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI), Adaderana reported.

"India is not governed by self-interest alone," he said, adding, “India has always believed in sharing its developmental successes. Growing together has been the basic tenet of India’s foreign policy.”
