Hundreds of Sri Lankan army officers promoted as Tamil nation mourns massacre at Mullivaikkal

The Sri Lankan military announced that 396 Officers & 8,110 other ranks in the army have been promoted on today as the Tamil nation mourns the loss of tens of thousands of Tamil lives at the hands of Sri Lanka.

The promotions have been approved by the head of Sri Lanka's army Shavendra Silva and Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, both who are credibly accused of war crimes.

In a speech thanking Sri Lanka's armed forces, Silva stated:

"I believe you would remember that the humanitarian operations in the East were compelled to be launched against the backdrop of the failure of all attempts even at international level to bring peace to the country."

In the final days of the armed conflict, Silva commanded the notorious 58 Division, an army unit that committed grave violations of international law. Silva led the 58 Division as the government launched a massive military assault that saw hospitals repeatedly bombed, widespread sexual violence, torture and the execution of surrendering Tamils.

Shavendra Silva has been barred from entering the USA due to credible information of his involvement, through command responsibility, in gross violations of human rights.
