German Tamils remember Mullivaikal in Düsseldorf

Hundreds of German Tamils marched in the capital of North-Rhine-Westphalia state to commemorate the Mullivaikal massacre.

The march ended outside the local parliament building in the city and saw several speakers. The sister of the late Brigadier Theeban lit the sacrifial flame ahead of the event.

Ninthuja Kanageswaran, from the Volksrat der Eela Tamilen (National Council of Eelam Tamils), adressed the event along with former Batticaloa MP Mr Jeyanandamoorthy, Frank Kemper of Die Linke, a left wing opposition party in Germany and Dr Andrew Higginbottom, a lecturer in political science at Kingston University, London.

Ms Kanageswaran stressed the importance of remembering this event.

She said that what occurred in Mullivaikal is not a representation of the strength of Sri Lanka, but of the moral resolve of the Eelam Tamil nation.
