The Sri Lankan military arranged a Buddhist ceremony, attended by a senior Buddhist monk at a army base in Mullaitivu earlier this month.
According to an official military website, the ceremony was part of a “meditation programme”.
The ceremony was reportedly arranged with “the purpose of raising spiritual standards and mental peace among Officers”.
The Sri Lankan military has regularly invited Buddhist monks from the south to its military bases for religious ceremonies, and has also been heavily involved in the construction of Buddhist stupas and temples across the largely Tamil North-East. Despite repeated criticism, such constructions continue.
