The prime minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, arrived in Sri Lanka on Thursday to embark on an official, four day visit of the country.
Mr Tobgay, who was greeted by the foreign minister, Mangala Samaraweera, will also meet with the president, Maithripala Sirisena, and the prime minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Mr Tobgay will receive a sapling of the sacred Buddhist tree, the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, and will take part in Buddhist ceremonies at the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
"The visit of Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to Sri Lanka will further consolidate and broaden bilateral engagement between the two countries, built on trust, mutual understanding and cultural affinity," Sri Lanka's ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement.
