Arrested ‘Sri Lankan nationals’ released without charge

British counter terrorism police have released four men that they arrested at Luton airport last week, under “suspicion of membership of a proscribed organisation”.

The men were all described as “Sri Lankan nationals” in a press release from the Metropolitan Police earlier today.

Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command had initially arrested and held the men on Thursday, but they were released without charge on Friday. British authorities added that they remain “under investigation” but did not elaborate which charges they were investigating.

The arrest come after two Tamil activists were also arrested by British counter-terrorism police at Heathrow airport last month as they were about to travel to Geneva to participate in a demonstration at the UN Human Rights Council, calling for Sri Lanka to be referred to the International Criminal Court.
