Another Tamil parent dies still searching for their child

Muttiah Arumugam, an Eelam Tamil father who had tirelessly searched for his forcibly disappeared son, has tragically passed away in Vavuniya never knowing what happened to his child.

Arumugam, who resided in Maharampaikulam, Vavuniya, passed away at the age of 65. He had been an active participant in numerous protests organised by the Vavuniya chapter of the families of the disappeared, advocating for the return of his child. His son, Sivakumar, was forcibly disappeared in 2007, and Arumugam had spent years campaigning for information about his son's whereabouts and his return.

To date, over 125 Tamil family members of the disappeared have passed away without any answers regarding their loved ones. Despite years of protest and calls from across the globe, the Sri Lankan state has refused to hold anyone accountable for the enforced disappearances.
