The parents and next of kin of fallen Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres were honoured at an event in Mannar last week.
A total of 95 parents of heroes - or Maaveerar in Tamil - from the villages of Iranai Iluppaikulum, Mullikkulam, and Pandivirichchan were honoured.
Flowers were laid, candles were lit and a moment of silence was observed in memory of the Tamil fighters who sacrificed their lives in the armed conflict.
The event also featured speeches reflecting on the sacrifices of the Maaveerar. Relatives of fallen Tamil fighters were presented with coconut saplings as a token of remembrance.
