Yohani to be congratulated in parliament following criticism of her praise for Sri Lanka's military


Sri Lankan singer, Yohani De Silva, is to be congratulated in Sri Lankan parliament on 23 November following criticism over her repeated public praise of her father, army commander Prasanna De Silva who is credibly accused of overseeing war crimes.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who stands accused of overseeing the indiscriminate shelling of hospitals amongst other war crimes, will participate in the felicitation ceremony. He will be joined by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Chairperson of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus (WPC),  State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr Sudarshini Fernandopulle, and a number of other Ministers.

Last month Yohani met with war crimes accused president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and shook hands with the US-sanctioned army chief Shavendra Silva.
