Valvettithurai city council denied permission to use the Theeruvil grounds for Maaveerar Naal commemorations following a request from the Sri Lankan security forces.

Former member of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) M.K. Shivajilingam sought permission to use the grounds for Maaveerar Naal on 27th. In a letter, Council Chairman, Selvendra, responded he had been instructed by the Valvettithurai Police not to allow any events to take place on the grounds until the end of the month.
