A commemorative event marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the 50th anniversary of the Vaddukoddai Resolution was held in Switzerland on 10 May under the theme “Unyielding Courage and Defiant Resurgence.”
The event, organised by the Swiss Tamil Coordinating Committee, took place in the canton of Bern and drew large numbers of Tamils from across Switzerland.
Proceedings began with the lighting of a common flame and the hoisting of the Tamil Eelam national flag. Attendees paid tribute to Tamil Eelam Maaveerar through floral honours and a ceremonial remembrance held before a collective commemorative portrait.

The programme featured commemorative songs, speeches and performances by Tamil youth, including emotive dances centred on themes of resistance, remembrance and national identity. Audio-visual presentations tracing the origins, development and history of the LTTE were also screened during the event.

Organisers described the gathering as a collective expression of Tamil national remembrance and political continuity, with participation from former activists, ex-cadres and affiliated Tamil organisations based in Switzerland.

An accompanying exhibition showcased miniature recreations connected to the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle, including scaled models of LTTE military vehicles and a replica depicting the burning of the Burning of the Jaffna Public Library. The displays drew significant interest from younger attendees and formed part of a broader commemorative presentation reflecting key moments in Tamil political and historical memory.
