US trade representative visits Sri Lanka ahead of framework agreement talks

The Assistant US Trade Representative for South Asia Michael Delaney visited Colombo to meet with government, trade and business officials ahead of an upcoming set of Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) talks in Washington.

Mr Delaney met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Development Strategy & International Trade, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of public Enterprise Development, the Board of Investments, the Department of Commerce, and the Prime Minister’s office, reports Colombo Page.

Commenting on the visit, US Ambassador Atul Keshap, said,

“Increasing bilateral trade and investment opportunities will enhance prosperity for all. Sri Lanka exports more to the United States that to any other country.”

Noting the potential for Sri Lanka to increase its Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) performance, Mr Delaney said,

“Sri Lanka is now well positioned to make important economic reforms. If implemented, Sri Lanka could maximize its potential with stronger trade and foreign direct investment performances.”
