Two foreign nationals die in Sri Lankan hostel after falling ill

A British woman and a German woman have both died after suddenly falling ill at their hostel in Colombo. 

The British woman and a German couple, who were sharing a room at the Miracle Colombo City hostel in Kollupitiya, were hospitalised after they began vomiting. 

The 24 year old British woman and 27 year old German woman have both died whilst the German man remains in hospital. 

According to The Independent, the police are exploring the possibility they are were poisoned after their room was sprayed with Phosphine, a chemical used to kill bedbugs. It has been claimed their room was sealed for 72 hours after the fumigation on January 30.

Colombo Fort Magistrate has reportedly ordered the hostel to shut down whilst the police carry out an investigation.
