Trinco rally for land and livelihood rights on May Day

Tamil civil society groups in Trincomalee held a rally on May Day, calling for locals’ land and livelihood rights to be restored.

The protestors’ demanded the return of livelihood lands both under military occupation and grabbed under large-scale projects such as the thermal power plant.

Demonstrators also raised the issues of insufficient support for drought affected farmers, the pollutive effects of some industrial projects and the exploitation of fishing resources by fishermen from other regions.
