TNPF MP commemorates LTTE's Major Sothiya

Tamil National People's Front general secretary and parliamentarian Selvarajah Kajendran paid tribute to the LTTE's Major Sothiya as the Tamil nation prepares for Maaveerar Naal this week.

The parliamentarian joined Major Sothiya's mother, to pay respects to the fallen cadre who was the commander of the LTTE's first female unit.

Sri Lankan authorities have ramped up their crackdown by obstructing and interrogating Tamil civilians and politicians across the North-East as they prepare for Maaveerar Naal which falls on November 27.

Last week, a crowd of police and military officers surrounded Tamils, including S Kajendran, who were cleaning a thuyilum illam ahead of Maaveerar Naal, and started taking their full contact details.

“There is no place in either Sri Lankan law or international law to strip people of their right to commemorate those who died in war,” Kajendran said. “However, the police and the army are conducting themselves in ways that are contrary to this belief.”
