TID investigates man for two-year-old social media post on Prabhakaran’s birthday

The Sri Lankan Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) has launched an investigation into a Tamil man’s social media post from two years ago, where he had reportedly wished LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran a happy birthday.  

According to reports, on Prabhakaran’s birthday two years ago, an individual had shared his photograph on social media and extended birthday wishes. The post reportedly attracted further comments and well-wishes from others in the individual’s social media network. Among those who commented was a young Tamil man from Bandarikulam, Vavuniya.  

This individual has now been summoned and questioned by the TID at their Vavuniya office.  

The investigation after further interrogations of Tamils for holding a birthday celebration outside the LTTE leader’s now destroyed house in November.

A spate of arrests also took place related to social media posts at the time.
