Thandikulam dam in Vavuniya is at the brink of collapsing due to heavy rainfall in the district.
Vavuniya's Divisional Secretary has advised residents in Shanthasolai, a village closeby, to take precautions as the dam is at risk of collapsing.
The recent heavy rainfall has increased the water flow in the dam, causing it to overflow. The overflow has already caused the dam to burst in several parts.
Heavy rains and flooding have swept the North-East, as a cyclone develops in the Bay of Bengal.
