Thaalam 2011 on June 19

Thaalam 2011, an inter-university/college dance competition, will be hosted by the Arts and Culture Council of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) on Saturday June 19 at the John Bassett Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Thaalam dancers speak:

The dance competition will be an event uniting youth across Canada, providing the youth with a platform to express their talents as well as the Tamil culture to the Canadian society.

Funds raised by Thaalam 2011 would be allocated towards initiating a youth recreation centre in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The Arts and Culture Council of CTYA is “responsible for creating an environment for youth that is inspiring and conducive of self-expression through the arts and culture.”

Among its key objectives are the improvement, re-orientation and expansion of programs that promote the arts and Tamil culture to Canadian Tamil youth and the broader Canadian community

All individuals, between the ages of 13 and 30 may enter this competition. Submissions can be made individually or as a group, CTYA said.

One of the many events taking place throughout the coming months in recognition of Thaalam 2011 is the ‘CTYA Theme Song Contest’.

All entries for the Theme Song contest must be submitted no later than 6:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Youth wishing to participate in this competition should write to [email protected]
