Tamils protest for release of Sri Lanka military occupied lands in Trinco

Tamils in Trincomalee protested for the release of all lands under Sri Lankan military occupation, in a demonstration to mark International Human Rights Day today.

Protesters slammed claims from various state sources that 90% of land in the North-East had been returned, asserting that the claims were false.

The demonstration raised the particular local concern of the government’s years-long delaying of providing proper documentation to landowners attempting to reclaim their lands in Sampur.

Protesters also condemned the encroachment of Tamil cultivation lands by the Sri Lankan forest department.

A petition with the protest demands was also handed over to Muthur divisional secretariat officials.
