Tamils in New Zealand mark Maaveerar Naal

Maaveerar Naal was commemorated in New Zealand last week, as Tamils across the country joined those around the world in paying tribute to Tamil freedom fighters.

The Tamil Eelam flag was hoisted by activist Rathinavel Arumugaperumal and Rubena Joan Mary, mother of Lt. Col. Litthara. The New Zealand flag was hoisted by Sumathi, a former women coordinator of the New Zealand Tamil committee.

Bells were rung as per the tradition of Maaveerar Naal. Meanwhile, family members of the heroes were facilitated with special arrangements to display an obelisk with the photos of their loved ones. Candles and flowers were laid at the site.
