Tamils in Denmark pay tribute on Maaveerar Naal

Maaveerar Naal - Great Heroes' Day - was commemorated in Denmark last week, as Tamils around the globe paid tribute to martyred fighters in the independence struggle.

This year's Maaveerar Naal began with the hoisting of the Tamil Eelam national flag followed by the broadcast of the leader Velupillai Prabhakaran's last speech in 2008.

Several members of the Danish parliament and city council graced the event. The union of the Danish Tamil organization and members of the Danish Malathi Tamil Art Academy hosted the event which featured poetry recitals, speeches and songs.

The dances were performed by the teachers and students of the Danish Dance Academy followed by the play "Fire in the Fire" produced and presented by the Danish Arts Council. Winners from the Student Knowledge Competition 2024 organized online by the Knowledge Coordinating Committee, and the winners of the Marveer Memorial Painting Competition 2024 held at Denmark Malathi Tamil Art Gallery were honoured with medals and certificates.
