Hundreds of Tamils demonstrated outside the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, calling for an investigation into genocide and a referendum for the Eelam Tamils on self-determination.
Travelling to Geneva from across Europe, Tamils carried banners and placards condemning the ongoing militarisation, land grabs and disappearances by the Sri Lankan state.
The demonstration took place whilst the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council took place inside the Palais de Nations.
The international inquiry examining mass atrocities committed against the Tamil people was due to be presented at this session. However, member states agreed to defer the publication of the report by six months however, to the 30th session in September, in order to allow Sri Lanka's new government to cooperate with the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka.
