Tamils on the island of Puliyentheevu in Batticaloa gathered today to celebrate Midnight Mass despite heavy rains and flooding causing mass displacement across the East.



The service at St Mary's Church in Puliyentheevu, included Christmas carols sang by local children.



Heavy rains continue to fall across the East, with tens of thousands already displaced by flooding.
