Four students groups in Tamil Nadu are protesting against the release of two films, which they said "promote the economic and political interests of Sri Lanka", reports The Hindu.
Free Tamil Eelam Students Organisation, Maatram Maanavar Ilaiyor Iyakkam, Tamil Youth and Students Federation, and the Progressive Students Front are calling for a ban on the films 'Kaththi' and 'Pulipaarvai'.
The film 'Kaththi' is co-produced by Lyca Productions, which is accused of having business links with the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa, whilst 'Pulipaarvai' is said to portray the LTTE leader's son, Balachandran Prabhakaran as a child soldier, the student groups said.

Speaking to the Tamil Guardian, V Prabhakaran from the Tamil Youth & Students federation said,
“Whilst we are not against Murugadoss or Vijay, we have evidence that Kaththi movie producers Lyca Productions are also sponsors of the Rajapaksa regime.”
The youth activist went on to add that the money generated from the movie, may well end up in the hands of the Sri Lankan government, adding, “We will never allow this to happen in Tamil Nadu”.
“We are trying to stop the pro Sri Lankan businessman entering the Tamil Nadu business market”, said Prabhakaran, noting that “activists, politicians, youths, cinema fans, general public all were taking about 'Kaththi ban'.”
