Swiss MPs stress the need for accountability on Mullivaikkal remembrance day

Marking the 13th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal genocide, MPs in Switzerland have expressed their solidarity in Tamil demands for justice and accountability.

Claudia Friedl, an MP for St. Gallen from the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland, stated on Twitter:

“For 13 years, Tamils have been calling for justice in Sri Lanka. An international investigation of the crimes is finally needed so that those responsible can be held accountable. We owe it to all the victims and survivors. #Mullivaikkal Memorial Day”

Fabian Molina, an MP for the Social Democratic Party and co-President of Swiss Aid similarly stated on Twitter:

Today on #Mullivaikkal Memorial Day we remember the crimes in Sri Lanka in 2009 when tens of thousands of Tamils were killed within a few months. To date, there has been no international investigation of these crimes to hold those responsible accountable.

We need your support

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view

We need your support in keeping our journalism going. Support our work today.
