Sri Lanka’s Terrorist Investigation Division probes case of missing Tamil school girls

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena pictured alongside the missing schoolgirls, claim their mothers.

The case of two Tamil schoolgirls who went missing in 2009 and were subsequently pictured in an election poster with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will be investigated by Sri Lanka’s Terrorist Investigation Division, reports BBC Tamil.

Kassipillai Jerome and Yogeswaran Mayuran, schoolgirls from Nedunkerny in Vavuniya, both went missing in 2009. However, in January 2015, the mothers of the girls stated they saw photos of their missing children in a published election photograph.

The children also appeared in a video alongside current Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, said the two women.

Sri Lanka’s Terrorist Investigation Division reportedly took details of the missing children from the mothers and opened an investigation into the case earlier this month.
