Sri Lanka’s president was personally warned about imminent terror attacks on three separate occasions, reports the Colombo Telegraph.
The Head of State Intelligence Service Senior (SSIS) DIG Nelantha Jayawardane, met Sirisena personally to brief him on the 11th April and 16th April to inform him about imminent terror attacks, and gave him a phone call whilst he was on holiday.
Further rumours that Sri Lanka’s defence secretary and police chief were warned of a an imminent suicide threat as early as April 9th, were also confirmed by the New York Times today.
In a memo dated April 9th, Sri Lanka’s police chief was warned of that “Zahran Hashim of National Towheeth Jamath and his associates” were “planning to carry out a suicide terrorist attack in Sri Lanka shortly.”
The memo farther said that the group was “planning to target some important churches,” ending with “It is important to alert the law enforcement agencies to be vigilant concerning the information.”
The latest developments come as Sri Lanka' faces scrutiny has to how and why it failed to act on foreign intelligence that warned, in detail, of an impending terror attack.
