Sri Lankan MP calls for arrest of Vijayakala Maheswaran

A Sri Lankan parliamentarian has called for the arrest of the former state minister and Tamil UNP MP Vijayakala Maheswaran, following a speech she made in Jaffna earlier this year.

Udaya Gammanpila, a parliamentarian representing the Colombo district, said that he was going to “issue a writ against the Attorney General to immediately arrest” Ms Maheswaran.

Ms Maheswaran said in a speech that the resurrection of the LTTE was needed to protect Tamil communities, to which Tamil government officials are reported to have applauded loudly. She has since been forced to resign from her post as State Minister of Child Affairs and has been questioned by Sri Lanka's Organized Crimes Division

Mr Gammanpila, who was addressing a book launch by a Sri Lankan navy Lieutenant Commander entitled “Who made the way to Nandiakadal”, also went on to claim that  Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran” is trying to create a war in this country again.
