Sri Lankan minister holds Buddhist ceremony to invoke blessings on 'war heroes'

Sri Lanka's state minister of defence held a Buddhist ceremony on Friday in order to "invoke blessings on war heroes who had sacrificed their lives during the fight against terrorism", the ministry of defence's official website reported.

The ceremony, organised by Minister Ruwan Wijewardene, was conducted by members of the Buddhist clergy, or Maha Sanga, including the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya chapter, Ugugama Buddharakkita.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Wijewardene "praised the efforts of the War Heroes and also their families for their services and sacrifices during the terrorist conflict" the website said.
