Sri Lankan military hands out books to Jaffna schoolchildren

The Sri Lankan army once again held an event for Tamil schoolchildren in Jaffna, where school equipment was handed out in a military run ceremony.

Several senior Sri Lankan military personnel were present at the ceremony, which saw uniformed troops hand out school equipment to Tamil schoolchildren at the Thalayady Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School (RCTMS) on Friday.

An official military website said the event was held “with sheer intention of quenching the thirst for education of Jaffna students and Reconciliation programme (sic)”.

Buddhist monks were present at the ceremony, alongside Hindu and Catholic priests.
