Sri Lankan military forces hold 'war heroes day' event in Palaly

Sri Lankan military forces based in Jaffna held ‘war heroes day’ in Palaly today.

The commemorations were organised by the office of the governor of the Northern Province, Reginald Cooray, who attended the event as chief guest, alongside the Jaffna security force headquarters.

The event included marches by the tri-forces and the police, and floral tributes at the military memorial monument.

During the Rajapaksa era, the event was celebrated as ‘war victory day’.

Meanwhile preparations are underway among Tamil communities to remember the more than 40,000 civilians massacred during the final stages of the war.

Civil society organisers have reported military harassment while engaging in memorialisation activities.
