Sri Lankan military builds water purifying plant in Vanni base

The Sri Lankan military constructed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant within its base in Vanni last week, reportedly after troops suffered illnesses from the local water supply.

The plant, unveiled last week, was built to “fulfill a long-felt need in the headquarters where a high prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has recorded among the troops due to the consumption of regional water system regularly,” according to an official army website.

The Sri Lankan Navy’s Research and Development Unit constructed the plant as part of its “social responsibility” the website continued.
