Sri Lanka’s defence minister Ruwan Wikewardena hailed Sri Lanka’s president and prime minister for ‘saving the military from the Geneva problem.’
Speaking at a welfare distribution event for families of Sri Lanka’s military on Monday, Wikewardena reiterated that Sri Lanka had Successfully negotiated around international pressure it faced at the United Human Rights Council, reports Ceylon News.
Speaking on national security, Mr Wikewardena said,
“Many have accused our government of letting down the national security and the welfare of war heroes. This is completely untrue and I total reject them. It is under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Rani Wickrememsinghe that we were successful in saving the military from the Geneva problem.”
The statement comes as Sri Lanka's president rejected the possibility of including foreign judges in a war crimes court.
