Sri Lanka will enforce another 3 hour 15-minute power outage across parts of the island as the fuel crisis deepens.
The outage is set to take place on Thursday. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said other areas will experience two hours of outage in two blocks. In recent weeks the island has seen power cuts of up to 7 ½ hours. This recent announcement comes days after thousands marched through Colombo protesting the government's response and handling of the current economic crisis with some attempting to storm the Presidential palace. The demonstrations were led by leader the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party, Sajith Premadasa. He was accompanied by the party chairman and accused war criminal, Sarath Fonseka, General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara and other parliamentarians.
Sri Lanka is currently facing one of its worst economic crises. Due to the foreign exchange shortage, Sri Lanka has been unable to afford imports of fuel, medicine, and food, causing prices to skyrocket. The country has been rationing its supply of fuel, which has led to long queues at petrol stations and daily power cuts across the island.
