Sri Lanka hopes that the new UN High Commissioner for human rights, Prince Zeid of Jordan, would be "more balanced" than Navi Pillay, the government spokesperson, Keheliya Rambukwella, said.
"The government hopes the new Human Rights Chief will take note of the concerns Sri Lanka had with the outgoing Commissioner and carry out his duties in an unbiased manner," Rambukwella reportedly told journalists at Kandy on Monday.
"We were open about our complaints that Pillay was biased against Sri Lanka. She was never impartial. We hope that her successor would be more balanced in his approach," he added.
Speaking to CNN just days before the end of her term, Ms Pillay said that she was not disturbed by criticism from Sri Lanka, calling her a "Tamil Tigress", nor from other countries such as Israel which has attacked her for her stance on Gaza. See more here.
