Soldiers in Jaffna given 50" TVs amid calls for demilitarisation

The Sri Lankan army gifted troops serving in Jaffna 50" colour televisions in a what it described as a "welfare measure".

At a ceremony which took place earlier this month, 14 televisions were distributed to the soldiers, which followed an earlier distribution of TVs in March.

The event took place amid ongoing calls from the Tamil people in Jaffna and across the North-East, for the area to be demilitarised over 6 years after the end of the armed conflict.
