SLFP official sacked over Mahinda rally

Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena has sacked a local SLFP official for his role in organising a party rally in support of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Devinuwara organiser Kanchana Wijesekera was replaced with Suneth Nilanga Hendavitarana, party sources told The Island.

During the rally, a letter by Mahinda Rajapaksa was read out which warned against the new government's policies, saying that Sri Lanka's national security and economy was under risk.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
