Sirisena - Sri Lanka's security is 99% ensured

Sri Lanka's president, Maithripala Sirisena yesterday urged the international community to relax travel advisories, stating the security situation was 99% ensured.

Sirisena met with foreign envoys from the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, European Union, Australia and Germany, at his house on Sunday, the president's media division said.

Travel advisories were issued following the Easter Sunday suicide bombings last month by Islamist extremists.

Sri Lanka's decision to extend the state of emergency by another month was also discussed at the meeting, with Sirisena reportedly reassured envoys that he did not envisage this being further extended.
