Sinhalisation: New Buddha statue placed in Achuveli

A new Buddha statue has been placed under a tree in Nilavari, Achuveli under the cover of night as part of the ongoing Sinhalisation of the North-East.

Locals have reported that the Buddha statue was only placed there after a Sri Lankan military checkpoint was recently set up in the area.

The military later took the statue away after Valikamam East divisional council chairperson Thiyagaraja Nirosh went to the spot.

Sri Lanka has continued to alter the demographics of the Tamil homeland by using its military and the archaeology department to seize Tamil land and places of worship.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
