The leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), R Sampanthan, has been nominated to Sri Lanka's Constitutional Council, following the resignation of Chamal Rajapaksa.
The Council met yesterday evening under the chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
It is sent to meet again before the end of the month to focus on filling the empty roles of Chief Justice and Auditor General.
Sri Lanka's leader of the House, Lakshman Kiriella said last September the draft of the new constitution would be presented soon to parliament, however, several months on delays continue.
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) continues to campaign for it, arguing that it is "a fundamental necessity".
The draft proposal was handed over to the Steering Committee in August.
