Ranil proposes Sajith as deputy UNP leader

The leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe welcomed back the former deputy leader Sajith Premadasa, nominating him for the role once again.

The UNP's Working Committee will however make the final decision over the appointment, he added, addressing crowds as the UNP's 68th annual convention Saturday.

Wickremasinghe said he was "confident that Sajith is qualified to lead the party same way as his father did to create another golden era of the party", reports ColomboPage.

Last year the UNP was said to be in crisis after Premadasa, the UNP MP for Hambantota, launched a campaign to oust Wickremasinghe from his leadership position.
